Formula 1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone’s mother-in-law has been rescued by police in Rio de Janeiro from two men following her capture on Friday of last week.
Aparecida Schunck, who had been held captive in Brazil since last Friday, had not been harmed, concluded the Sao Paulo anti-kidnapping division.
Schunck is the mother of Fabiana Flosi, who married Ecclestone in 2012. Ecclestone reportedly had to pay a sum of $28m for her release.
Sao Paulo, the country’s capital, has been harboured by problems of kidnapping and people being held for ransom for decades, however a committed police force has drastically reduced the amount of kidnappings in the last fifteen years.
This rescue comes just before the 2016 Olympic Games are due to be held in Rio de Janeiro, where there will be 85,ooo troops deployed during the event to ensure safety among all.
