Alpine F1’s Esteban Ocon has said that he is ready to challenge teammate Fernando Alonso in the 2021 Formula 1 season.
Ocon also shared his anticipation at driving alongside the former two-time F1 world champion.
“Fernando is someone I really respect as a driver,” Ocon said to Sky Sports. “I have so much respect for what he has done.
“When I was watching him and Michael [Schumacher] fighting, he was the person giving me the motivation to come where I am today.
“All in all I feel like he has been practicing, he has been coming to a very strong level straight away so he is going to be a very strong opponent. I am definitely going to fight hard.
“I know what I have to face and I know I will be starting stronger than last year. I’m definitely ready for the challenge but he will definitely be ready straight away. I know that.“
Ocon finished the 2020 season 12th in the points, behind his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo in 5th. He secured his maiden podium at the Sakhir Grand Prix, finishing 2nd on the podium.
